This training focuses on the knowledge, rules and regulations of driving a commercial vehicle on public roads. It is required by the FMCSA for all Entry Level Drivers.
To learn more about the ELDT mandate
It is done by reading, watching videos and/or slide shows and taking quizzes and exams. All quizzes and exams must be passed at 80%. This program is ideal for:
- Someone who needs theory training without taking skills training from us or
- Wishes to enroll in our hourly training.
- Someone who is getting additional endorsements.
Most of this training can be done online if desired. This course generally takes 1-3 weeks to complete depending on availability and information retained. It is not necessary to have your Learner’s Permit to start your Theory Training.
We offer four different theory classes: Basic, Hazmat, Passenger and School Bus. All Entry Level Drivers are required to take the Basic Theory Class. This is for those wishing to get their Class A or Class B CDL. The other classes are optional for most, but are required for those wishing to get extra endorsements added to their CDL.
There are two options to get your theory training. Our most popular is online with videos and quizzes. The other is checking out a book (requires a $50 deposit, refundable when the book is returned), watching slide shows and taking quizzes. The slide shows and quizzes are available on our student website. The prices do vary between the two as follows for standalone classes:
Online | Books | |
Basic | 250 | 100 |
Basic + 3 End. | 550 | NA |
Basic + 2 End. | 500 | 200 |
Basic + 1 End. | 380 | 150 |
HazMat | 150 | NA |
Passenger | 150 | 75 |
School Bus | 150 | 75 |
